Bicyclette à pédales ISO C.I.M.

From 1948 to 1950, André MARCADIER manufactured frames and assembled bicycles for the C.I.M. brand, in partnership with Joannès IMBERT. Together, they filed a patent on July 22, 1948, for a “bicycle brake with rational clamping and liftable brake shoes.” In this system, the brake shoes -which clamped straight onto the rim- could be positioned vertically to facilitate wheel removal and were returned to their original position by springs as soon as the cyclist lightly touched the brake lever.

This bicycle is also equipped with “clip-in pedals,” for which Augustin ISAAC filed his first patent in 1944. By extending the lever arm during pedaling and smoothing out the foot’s trajectory, this system made pedaling more efficient. However, it required the manufacturer to build a frame with a specific geometry, featuring a raised bottom bracket.
