Born out of the difficulties of the post-war economic recovery, exacerbated by rising fuel prices during the Suez Crisis, and by increasingly congested city traffic, the microcar was the modernized version of the pre-war cyclecar. Most often, it combined a motorcycle or scooter engine (hence the term “Auto Scooter”) with an automobile-style body offering seating for one or two people. In some cases, when fitted with only three wheels, it could even be driven with a motorcycle license alone.

Built in Lyon–Villeurbanne. The Société Nationale de Construction Aéronautique du Nord built approximately 200 examples of this microcar, powered by a 175 cc Ydral two-stroke engine. The factory was later taken over by Richard Continental.
