Unaccompanied visits

Situated on the banks of the River Saône, 11km to the north of Lyon, the Château de Rochetaillée-sur-Saône and its 3 hectares of wooded parkland is the setting for the Musée de l’Automobile Henri Malartre.

The visit covers two buildings (the Belle Epoque château and the galleries) containing collections of automobiles, bicycles, vintage motorcycles and public transport vehicles collected by Henri Malartre.

From Hitler’s armoured Mercedes to the Lumière brothers’ Vivastella, or a carriage from the first Fourvière funicular railway, you can discover around a hundred exceptional vehicles. The museum also houses a number of vehicles manufactured in the Lyonnais region: those brands like Luc Court, Rochet-Schneider or Viratelle, today long vanished, were the pride of the world automobile industry at the beginning of the 20th century.
