Born out of the difficulties of the post-war economic recovery, compounded by rising fuel prices during the Suez Crisis and the growing problems of urban traffic, the microcar was the modernized version of the pre-war cyclecar. It most often combined a motorcycle or scooter engine (hence the term “Auto Scooter”) with an automobile-style body accommodating one or two people. In some cases, when fitted with only three wheels, it could even be driven with a motorcycle licence alone.

Built in Lyon–Villeurbanne, France. The Société Nationale de Construction Aéronautique du Nord (SNCAN) produced approximately 200 examples of this microcar, powered by a 175 cc Ydral two-stroke engine. The factory was later taken over by Richard Continental.
